PTSD, in both military and civilian populations co-occur with chronic pain (60% to 80%) resulting in increased opioid use and "abnormal pain perception". Screening for PTSD with chronic pain prevents escalating opioid use and appropriately addresses PTSD and chronic pain with cognitive behavioral modalities for anxiety and pain management.
